• BTEC Short Course Awards are designed to provide focused and specialist work-related qualifications in a range of sectors. On successful completion of these qualifications, learners may progress into or within employment and/or continue their study in their vocational area.

    Learners at Holly Hall will have the opportunity to complete the award at Level 1 during their Year 10 and subsequently Level 2 during their Year 11, in addition to gaining GCSE in Mathematics. The course is designed to complement their learning in mathematics and has an engineering themed content.

    Unit 1A involves using quantity and uncertainty in engineering and covers areas of data handling and probability up to and including Grade D at GCSE. Unit 1B comprises shape and space, change and relationships in engineering, also up to and including Grade D at GCSE.

    Units 2A and 2B follow the same format but involve using and applying mathematical ability up to and including Grades A and A* at GCSE. Each level is programmed to be covered in 30 weeks.

  • This course is provided for pupils that have already achieved A*-C. Ideally for pupils that want to further their skills in preparation for Alevel Mathematics. This is not as demanding as Additional Maths and therefore can not be used for UCAS applications.

  • Pupils will follow GCSE Mathematics Foundation Tier scheme of work that covers Number and Algebra, Shape, Space and Measure and Statistics and Probability. Functional Skills are applied to all areas of the curriculum.
  • A course provided for pupils that have already achieved A*- B and intend on pursuing Alevel Mathematics. The results from this can be used for UCAS applications.
